Southwest Idaho’s largest fly-fishing event is coming to Expo Idaho on January 5 and 6. The 19th Annual Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo, hosted by the Boise Valley Fly Fishers (BVFF), will feature presentations by national speakers, local guides, renowned fly tyers and more. Attractions also include an indoor casting pond and exhibitors showcasing the sport’s latest gear, tackle and techniques. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and children 13 and under are free.

More than 2,500 local anglers and enthusiasts attend the Western Idaho Fly Fishing expo each year, and the 2024 Expo will kick off BVFF’s 52nd year as a nonprofit education and conservation club. Proceeds from the event will fund local fishing access projects, conservation training, fly-fishing education and youth programs. This year’s show will have an added emphasis on education, with new workshops teaching the basics of fly-fishing.

BVFF works closely with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Oregon Fish and Wildlife, Trout Unlimited, Fly Fishers International and others to protect and enhance fish habitat, promote access and promote the sport of fly-fishing.
