I recently had the good fortune of landing in the Idaho state\nrecord book<\/a>. I was ice fishing at Grasmere on December 12 when I caught a\n20-inch, 2.27-pound Lahontan cutthroat trout. It is an honor and a blessing to\ncatch such a beautiful fish! <\/p>\n\n\n\n Lahontan cutthroat are very rare in Idaho\u2014they are only\nfound in a small handful of lakes, primarily in the desert mountains of Owyhee\nCounty. The Lahontan is Nevada\u2019s state fish, and they are known to grow to\nenormous sizes in places like world-famous Pyramid Lake. But in Idaho, my catch\nnearly doubled the previous state record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The record has made local<\/a> and national headlines<\/a>, and I wrote a column about the experience for the Idaho Statesman<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019d also like to congratulate Gatlynn Mayes, who caught a state\nrecord tiger trout<\/a>\u2014another rare Idaho species\u2014through the ice on December\n16.
